You need to have a good reason for not claiming at the right time; we call this having or showing 'good cause'.

If you disagree with the date your claim starts from for any other reason you can appeal against the decision.

In order for a backdate of Council Tax Support to be allowed you will have to show 'good cause' why you did not apply earlier.

Some examples of when claimants may have "good cause" are; For Example You were ill from February to March and only claimed benefit in March when you recovered but you did not claim before because you had no-one to help you.
